Welcome to Malaysia
In the heart of Southeast Asia lies one of the world's
most enchanting land - Malaysia. A tropical paradise of immense
charm, Malaysia is a veritable treasure trove of diverse cultures
and hospitable people, exotic cuisine, fascinating festivals, quaint
villages and modern skylines.
Bordered by Thailand to the north and Singapore to
the south, Malaysia also stretches across the northern tier of Borneo
to form the states of Sarawak and Sabah. Endowed with a long coastline
and numerous offshore islands, Malaysia offers much to the traveller.
Endless stretches of palm-fringed beaches with emerald seas and
golden sunlight, fresh water lagoons for quiet introspection, breathing
underwater worlds of colorful marine life and mist shrouded hills
of primeval rainforests.
Travellers to Malaysia will find that the climate
varies according to region. In general, the lowlands are warmer
with temperatures ranging between 21ºC and 32ºC. Due to
the higher elevation, the highlands are cooler with temperatures
dropping as low as 16ºC. Rain falls throughout the year in
quick heavy showers and average around 200cm annually. The wettest
months are between October and March during the rainy season.
Situated in the heart of South East Asia, Malaysia
is accessible to much of the world by sea and air. There are over
72 major airlines operating services to the international airports
of Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. Malaysia
is also accessible from Thailand and Singapore by road and rail.
Port Klang and Penang on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia as
well as Kota Kinabalu in Sabah link the country to the rest of the
world by sea.
Travel within the country is relatively cheap and
comfortable. Transportation to major towns and cities is by air-conditioned
trains and buses, as well as regular scheduled flights by domestic
carriers. Malaysia's excellent networks of highways make driving
another convenient and interesting way of discovering the country.
Buses and taxis are also available for intra-city excursions.
Whether your destination is a sun-drenched beach,
a remote coral island rich in marine life, a dense tropical jungle
with a multitude of flora and fauna or a cool hill resort nestled
in majestic mountains, you can be assured every experience will be
an adventure to treasure for years to come. Add to this the varied
traditions and endless festivals of Malaysia's many races and cultures,
and you will see the warmth and beauty of its people is every bit
as exiciting as the land. Wherever you go and whatever you do, Malaysia will
captivate you with its sights and sounds.
